Lisa Ruiz wins BRAVO Award!

by Robin Schroeder 5. March 2010 16:55

On March 3, 2010, Lisa Keffer-Ruiz (Webpage) recieved a Music Center BRAVO award honoring her innovation and excellence in Arts Education! Lisa is a magnificent studio art teacher at Fairgrove Academy, which is a parent choice school for the visual and performing arts and technology in the Hacienda La Puente Unified School District.

Lisa Keffer-Ruiz and her mother, Dixie Ybarra, at the Music Center Bravo awards.

The following information is copied from the BRAVO web page: http://www.musiccenter.org/education/bravo.html
What is the BRAVO Award? The BRAVO Award was established by the Music Center in 1983 to recognize teachers and schools for creativity, innovation and excellence in arts education. The Bravo Award honors educators and schools for excellence in all arts disciplines. BRAVO Awards are presented in three categories; schools, arts specialist teacher, general classroom teacher. BRAVO Award winners use the arts to revitalize teaching, enhance academic achievement and foster self-esteem, teamwork and cross-cultural communication and understanding. The winners receive a BRAVO sculpture and cash awards.

The BRAVO Process Nominees must submit a completed application which is then reviewed by a committee of educators, artists and arts specialists. A point ranking system is used to select the top tier of applicants. A panel of judges chooses applicants from each category and visits their classrooms and determines the BRAVO Award winners. Getting the word out about the value of arts education and spotlighting great educators is a large part of the BRAVO mission. We encourage every nominee to submit an application and be part of the recognition process!

Many congratulation also to Dennis McGonagle (McGonagle Studio Website) was also nominated in 2010 for a BRAVO award. Whittier Daily News article: Whittier teacher nomiated for BRAVO Award for exemplary arts education.
