Creation is a meditative process for me from beginning to end. Having an idea for a project come to me, choosing the materials I am going to work with, getting my work space ready, cutting, shaping, gluing, grouting ,all flow together . I get lost in my work and time seems to stand still. So many things inspire me. Song lyrics,a photograph, something that I have experienced in my travels, or even a dream may be the catalyst that starts the process. All these things go in my brain and swirl around until one floats to the surface and says" Here I am, I'm next!" I've tried painting, drawing, print-making, fiber, ceramics, and sculpture but nothing resonates with me like mosaics have. Maybe it's the incredible colors and texture variations. Maybe it's the process of cutting and fitting each piece. Maybe it is making a complete "something" out of little bits of " nothing". I don't know. I do know that working in mosaic gives me the feeling that I've come home- this is it, this is what I was meant to do.
