I have always loved painting from an early age. My Mom painted and I remember seeing her paintings hanging in our small living room. I believe, her artistic talents have inspired me.
I took art classes in college. Later in life, I started taking painting more seriously by attending oil painting classes at Hacienda Heights Adult and Senior Center. I also joined the La Habra and Whittier Art Associations.
I have studied portrait painting under Linda Muniz. Other teachers have been Veronica Kortz, Mr. Lau and presently Rudy Spadano. I also love being my own artist teacher by my own life experiences.
I have had art showings in Whittier and La Habra Art Galleries, Borders Book Store and Hacienda Heights Community Center. In February 2006, I was selected to show my artwork at the Whittier City Hall where I received great reviews in the news media. I have sold several of my art paintings to private collectors. I also had a showing in early 2007 at Pomona Latin Art Museum.
Ofelia and Lindsey
I have won several awards through my affiliation with the above showings. I have sold some of my floral paintings and have been commissioned to do portraits. I consider myself a starting artist. I think that I learn with every stroke of my brush. I believe art is very important in our lives. Art has helped me express myself and see the world in a different perspective. I love to paint people especially showing their emotions and feelings. I have a great sense of feeling for human nature and their traumatic experiences in their lives. Maybe, because I have had some of these experiences myself.
I also do soft stone carving and beading.
