Are you a talented artist in or around the Whittier area? Would you like to showcase

- Package B: $104.30 startup fee
- Package C: $139.30 startup fee
- Link Package: $34.30 startup fee
Package A, B and C include the following:
- An 'artist's home page' with up to three images. The address for your page will
be http://www.WhittierArtists.com/YourName .
- An image in the slideshow on the www.WhittierArtists.com Home Page. This image is
linked back to your artist's home page.
- All artwork is cross referenced and can be browsed by medium. This means that your sculptures
can be viewed from your home page and also be seen by visitors when they click on
'Sculptures' under 'Browse by Media' in the left-hand menu.
- All artwork is searchable, using the 'search' box at the top of each page.
- All artists recieve a personal email address: yourname@WhittierArtists.com. You
can forward this to your existing yahoo or gmail account if you would like to or you
can use http://webmail.whittierartists.com to check your email from any computer that is hooked up to the internet.
- All local art shows will be listed on our Current Shows
page. All artists that are showing will have a link from this page to their artist's
home page within WhittierArtists.com.
What is a 'category'? Ultimately, this is
a web page that features one or more pieces of your artwork. You can divide your
pieces of artwork in categories. For example, say you have 4 drawings and 5 paintings
that share a particular subject matter or style. Use your 'category' page to talk
about your inspiration, technique, etc. You can then link the 4 drawings and 5 painting
to this category page. You could also use a category page to share your Artist's statement, biography
or thesis or anything else that you didn't share on your artist's home page. Each of
your pieces of artwork will have their
own page. The 'category' pages will contain thumbnail images that when
clicked, will link to the page devoted to that piece of artwork. For example, on
Vicki Schramm's home page, she includes a biography,
one image of herself, links to her two category pages and four featured pieces
of artwork. When a visitor clicks on any of the pieces of artwork, details and a
larger picture of that piece are displayed on a separate page.
What kind of information do you need about each piece
of artwork? The internet is a big place. Search engines like google.com
and yahoo.com make finding things on the internet very easy, but in order to be
visible to those search engines, you need text. Search engines can't 'see' your
artwork. They can only read the words you write. For this reason, the information
on each work of art is very, very important!! We have printable forms that list
the information needed for each piece of artwork.
You can download them here.
I don't want anyone taking a picture of my artwork from
the web and using it without my permission! We have disabled the right
click functionality for the entire site (go ahead and try it!). Vistors may not
right click their mouse and 'save picture as'. This is how the vast majority of
images are stolen on the web. This is not a completely fool-proof way to protect
your images, but it discourages most online piracy. Unless otherwise specified by
the artist, high resolution images of artwork will not be used. For a small fee,
we can also overlay a custom watermark on your images for further security. Each
page also carries a general terms of use message in the page footer.
You can read more about image guidelines here.
I am not really good with a computer. How much of this
would I have to do myself? If you don't have a computer or are just plain
allergic to them, we can help. However, you will need to take your own pictures
and write your own text. Our forms are printable and once filled out, they can be
snail-mailed or faxed into us. We can also help you scan slides or prints. There
will be extra fees associated with these services, please contact
us for more information.
Is this site juried? Not officially. However, we
reserve the right to refuse posting text or artwork that is inappropriate or unoriginal.
Artwork is generally limited to fine art, music or performing arts. If needed, we also reserve the
right to give our artists the opportunity to vote in situations where it seems appropriate to
come to a decision. Voting would be done via email.
How often can I change the content of my site? Because most of the
traffic to this site will be the result of search engines, your site content should be current, but not modified too often.
It takes about 6-10 weeks for the larger search engines (google.com and yahoo.com) to 'spider' the web and be indexed.
If a search engine comes around 6-10 weeks later to find that the content of a site has changed dramatically, it
may drop the site in certain rankings.
In the future, we may build a web application that will allow artists to log in and change their content by themselves.
For now, any content changes and all initial setup will be made by Robin Schroeder .
There is no additional fee for content changes.
If I sell something to a contact made as a result of this website, do
I need give WhittierArtists.com a percentage? No, this is not an art gallery. The artist keeps 100% of any sales made as a result
of WhittierArtists.com. We didn't create your artwork - you did! Note that should we decide in the future to
begin to offer the ability to sell artwork online and accept credit card payments, this policy may change.
I am interested in selling my artwork online (i.e. taking
credit card payments). The software used to host WhittierArtist.com is
a full-featured e-commerce package. If there are enough artists in the community
interested, we can discuss this option.
My artwork doesn't look good on that background color.
Can I choose another? Yes, your artwork, category pages and artist's
home page can have a different background color, text color and font. However, the
WhittierArtists.com header, left-side menu and footer links need to remain for continuity
and navigational purposes.
That is a pretty cool slideshow on the home page, can
I have one of those on my artist's home page? Yes! All of the images that you would like
to use should all be either landscape or portrait, but not both. There is a $40 setup fee for a slideshow.
Can I have my very own domain name? In other words,
instead of www.WhittierArtists.com/YourName, you would prefer something like www.mylastnamestudio.com. If the domain that
you would like is available, we can set up an alias to your artist's home page from a new domain. There
will be a $50/year fee, which includes the purchase of your new domain.
How would I be billed? We can bill you monthly,
biannually or annually. All invoices will be sent to artists via email unless otherwise
requested. At this time, we can accept a personal check via 'snail' mail. As the
site gets larger, we may accept credit card payments online.
Can I upgrade or downgrade packages? Of course
you can! Artists are always creating new things and loosing interest in others.
The package prices will be prorated and your web page content can be updated.
What is the maximum number of artists the website can
handle? If we need to, we will limit the number of artists to about 50.
How do I get started? Email Robin Schroeder
at to set up an in person
meeting or phone call to discuss what you have in mind!
